  3. <hi style=afpcap>The Fleetwing BT-12 was constructed of stainless steel as a potential basic trainer for the Army. A single example was purchased in 1939 for evaluation, and was followed by a further 24 ordered in 1942. Despite being a robust aircraft, the type was rather expensive to acquire especially as their were several cheaper designs available. </hi>
